What is coconut oil?
Coconut oil is an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of the mature coconuts that are harvested from the coconut palm. This oil is slow to oxidize due to the high saturated fat content. Coconut oil has many benefits when it is used internally and externally and can be used interchangeably for cooking and the skin. There are many benefits that coconut oil has. Using unrefined, virgin, extra virgin, or cold-pressed it the best type of coconut oil to use. Using these types of oils, you can avoid poisonous chemicals and retain all the benefits enzymes, antioxidants, and fatty acids.
Uses for coconut oil.
Coconut oil is a very popular oil and for many good reasons, it offers many health benefits that have a delicate taste and is widely available almost anywhere. As I mentioned before it is a very versatile oil to have in your home with several uses that you may not be aware of and I will name a few of the benefits that coconut oil has. It can protect your skin from UV rays when applied to the skin it can block 20% of the sun’s UV rays, also be advised that it does not provide complete protection like regular sunscreen. Coconut oil can also improve your dental health against bacteria in your mouth that causes dental plaque, tooth decay, and gum disease. Swishing coconut oil around in your mouth for 10 minutes also known as oil pulling can reduce bacteria as effectively as antiseptic mouthwash.
Coconut oil is great for various skin conditions such as eczema, it can improve dermatitis and other skin disorders. Using coconut oil as a moisturizer for eczema can show major signs of improvement and relief. It makes a wonderful moisturizer for your entire body, you can even use it on your face as well, although it is not recommended for those who have oily prone skin. It can help repair cracked skin when applied to the desired area and adds lasting moisture.
Coconut oil for creating body butters.
Coconut oil can be used as a carrier oil when creating homemade skincare products. If you love to make your body buttercreams at home, then coconut oil makes a great added oil for a moisturizer when combined with other hard butters such as shea and cocoa butter. Creating soft and whipped body butters contains a high amount of coconut oil to get the fluffy and whipped texture. If you desire a thicker butter you would use more hard butters and less of the coconut oil.
